Cooler-Climate Deployment Zones

Regional guide to South Korean counties and elevation bands suited for mining equipment at 0.05 PH/s and above, with winter intake temperature ranges.

South Korea’s topography creates distinct microclimate bands that favour or challenge air-cooled mining deployments. This page maps the zones our engineers visit most often when assessing rigs at 0.05 PH/s and above.

Zone reference

−15 to 5 °C

Gangwon highland belt

Counties: Hoengseong, Pyeongchang, Jeongseon, Taebaek

Elevation 400–800 m. Long winter season with clear-night radiative cooling. Excellent for heat rejection; requires frost management at intake louvers and condensate drainage on PSU enclosures. Most of our 0.08–0.15 PH/s container assessments occur here.

−8 to 8 °C

Jeolla inland plateau

Counties: Jeongeup, Namwon, Jangsu

Agricultural buildings with existing ventilation openings. Dust from field operations demands frequent filter changes. Morning humidity spikes after frost melt are the primary throttle trigger for 0.05–0.09 PH/s rows.

−5 to 12 °C

Gyeongsang northern fringe

Counties: Andong, Yeongju, Bonghwa

Moderate elevation with reliable grid access. Suitable for first-time operators testing a 0.05 PH/s floor before expansion. Summer highs occasionally stress exhaust capacity — dual-season ducting recommended.

0 to 15 °C

Coastal exclusion band

Areas: Eastern Gangwon coast, southern Jeolla coast

We generally advise against new 0.05+ PH/s air-cooled deployments within 15 km of salt-air exposure unless intake paths use coated louvers and monthly corrosion inspection is budgeted. Salt film on filters raises static pressure within weeks.

How to use this guide

Deployment zone data is a starting point, not a permit to skip site assessment. Microclimates within a single county can differ by 4 °C based on valley orientation and nearby water bodies.

If your proposed site falls in a favourable zone, request a Cooler-Climate Site Assessment to confirm intake sizing for your specific building. If you are comparing zones for a new investment, our Equipment Procurement Advisory can rank rig models against your shortlisted counties.
